Raw Food Announcements and Oats!!

Upcoming Events:

Saturday, September 17th,      Book Signing, 8am-noon Mill City Market ,      Minneapolis, MN

Tuesday, September 21,        Book signing 7-8pm        The Book Case,      Wayzata, MN

First…I want to let you all know that I will be selling and signing my new Raw Food Dessert book at the Mill City Farmers Market in Minneapolis on Saturday from 8am to noon! If you haven’t been to the Mill City Market, it is a great, organic farmer’s market over looking the Mississippi River in the old Gold Metal Flour Mill which was the largest Flour Mill in the world! They have amazing products from local farmers and artisans. I would love to see you there!

On Tuesday, September 21 st, I will be signing at The Bookcase in Wayzata. I would love to meet you so stop by if you can!

Book Review: In the Raw also wrote a great review of Rawmazing Desserts. You can see it here: In The Raw: Rawmazing Desserts

I am excited for tomorrow. I will be signing books and handing out raw food samples of some of the recipes from the new cookbook. I am going to be in the same booth with my friends, Marty and Darrold, the owners of Sunrise Flour Mill. They will have raw oat flour and raw flaked oats for sale!

As you know, I love using the raw oat flour and flaked oats. It is a great alternative to only nut flours which can be heavy and also high in calories and fat. Mostly, I love the diversity it brings to many of my raw food recipes.

Oats are high in fiber and have been found to help prevent and treat heart disease. Studies have proven that they reduce bad cholesterol.  For people with high cholesterol, just 3 gm of oats a day can reduce bad cholesterol by 8 to 23%! They help regulate blood sugar, aid in digestion and contain anti-oxidants that help prevent damage from free radicals.

One ounce of oat flour contains 113 calories, 3 grams of fat and 4 grams of protein. One ounce of almond flour contains 161 calories, 14 grams of fat and 6 grams of protein. While I love almond flour, it is great to mix it up and get a variety of nutrients.

You can find out more about Marty and Darrold’s flour and grains (including buying your own mills and flakers) here: Sunrise Flour Mill or stop into Mill City Market this weekend and pick some up!

Susan, what a beautiful day for a book signing in Minneapolis. The air was bright and a little cold, but that did not stop you from being at Mill City Farmers Market after 12:00 with a smile on your face. Thank you for signing the book! There was an extra spring in my step back to the car so that I could rush home and try out all of the excellent looking recipes!
