Raw Halvah
My dear friend, Amy Oscar, who by the way is editing the Rawmazing Dessert Cookbook, sent me a raw food recipe for raw Halvah that she created. I was thrilled with the idea as sesame seeds, the main ingredient are extremely loaded with nutrients. I put a little Rawmazing twist on the recipe, including a chocolate ganache topping.
Sesame seeds are loaded with calcium. One quarter cup provides over 1/3 of the RDA for calcium. They are also rich in magnesium and copper. The oil in sesame seeds is resistant to rancidity. They are also high in fiber, and contain lingans, which are fibers that are thought to lower cholesterol.
Amy also has a wonderful website, AmyOscar.com. She writes amazing uplifting stories and has a deep and beautiful insight into life.

Love this recipe. Ive made it countless times. My four and five year olds love this and take it as protein rich treat to have while the rest of their friends are eating cupcakes. They ask for “hot lava”. Thank you for such wonderful simple recipes.

Best halva I’ve ever tasted !

These are so good! The texture makes it a great replacement for rice krispy treats and you know it’s going to taste great when it’s topped with your chocolate ganache recipe!
Thanks again!

I am super happy to find you! I like the idea of “rawmazing”, time saving and healthy!
This is totally new to me so I have questions!
Is the coconut in the recipe, the actual fruit or flakes?
Can I find agave in stores except online? As soon as I get Agave ,I will try other dessert recipes.
Thanks!

hi susan–
this looks great and i’m going to make it tonight for a back-to-school treat for my (non-raw) boyfriend and i.
just one question–did you use a whole recipe of ganache for the halva recipe? or just half? (i don’t trust myself with leftover ganache and spoon 🙂 )
thanks!

I am pretty sure I didn’t use the whole thing.

O.K this is the third magical creation of yours that I made.
Each and every one has been Outrageously Delicious!
To live for…Raw-mazing!!
Thanks a bunch for sharing. =)

No…I used the raw, un-hulled seeds. No soaking. They were fine.

Thank you for this. I Love halava too! It looks as if you used the hulled sesame seeds, is this so? If it is I am curious to know if there is any high heat used in taking off the hull. Also would the unhulled ones work with this recipe, perhaps if they were soaked to soften first?
You are an amazing creator!
I appreciate all that you do and I am blessed with your sharing.
