Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator. I hope to fix that problem for one of you!

The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!

Here are the rules:

Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.

Only one entry allowed per person.

Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.

Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.

I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

    Hi there,
Are foods that should not be eaten raw/sprouted? Dried beans or any fruits or veg that should be avoided in their raw state?

Do you eat meat raw? Or do you use a dehydrator to ‘cook’ meat? Or do you not eat meat? We do mostly raw for vegetables, grains, nuts, but cook meat at this point. I don’t have a dehydrator and have wanted one for a long time. I have so many recipes that I want to try. Thanks for you site!

Are all veggies better raw? I have heard that some nutrients are available after cooking, but I don’t know the ins-and-outs, or the research behind it.

I know a little bit about the raw diet and would be anxious to do more but I do not have a dehydrator. I told the local raw restaurant in town of my dilemma. I asked if using the microwave at 10% power would work. Judging by the employee’s face, my question was wrong in so many ways. He politely said no. I walked out with my purchase of buckwheat that is patiently waiting and will one day optimistically become cereal. So, if I do not own a dehydrator, is there a good alternative?

I have 2 questions. 1. I would love to see your typical week of preparing food. Do you always soak nuts on Monday, make milk on Tuesday, etc?
    2. Is there a great substitute for cream? I miss cream in my tea! I have tried thick cashew cream, thick almond milk, I miss my cream!
I have never heard of a dehydrator that goes low enough in temperature besides the Excalibur. I like that this one is stainless steal. Does it have a temperature control and a timer?

Just learned about this contest from Gena’s site over at ChoosingRaw. I’ve been a vegan for around 4 years now, and I’ve been eating lots more raw food this past year. I must say that I love the raw food way, but I do love the occasional cooked meals as well. One thing I’ve always been a little confused about with “raw” status, is vinegar. Is vinegar raw? Is there a reason to avoid consuming vinegar? I love balsamic vinegar as well as many other vinegar varieties, and would love to learn more. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

Is there any form of cocktail that is raw? I am new to this and wondering if the process of making beer or wine exceeds temperatures for being raw.

Thanks for all of the great info on this site! I am learning so much as I read along!

In your opinion, what is the single most important daily food/foods a raw foodist should ingest for nutritional sustainability?
Thank you for the time spent on this rawmazing site. You have been sent as an answer to my prayer of needing to be inspired again regarding raw food preparation and presentation. Absolutely beautiful site. LOVE.
