Holiday Holidays
Waking up this morning, I am still exhausted from driving half way across the country yesterday. I flew out to Colorado to spend some time with my daughters and drove back with my youngest and her puppy. The drive from Boulder to Minneapolis is about 14 hours under the best conditions. With a puppy and a broken gas gage, add at least an hour for frequent stops.
I split my time between Boulder, and Summit County where my oldest daughter is a snow board instructor and also drives a team of horses for sleigh rides. This was a quick trip and I opted to skip the skiing for a day in the snow with the horses. It was the perfect choice as being around my daughter, her boyfriend and the draft horses, in the woods surrounded by pines and snow, was exactly what I needed.

The team that we took out was Winchester and Remington, Winny and Remi for short. (Yes, we are in the west..) They are a young percheron team, Amish trained and huge. Remington’s head is about the same size as my daughter from the waist up. Enormous and powerful, they are sweet and gentle on the ground. Nosing around for treats, wanting their heads scratched, they step carefully when around you.

Getting all the harnesses and gear on the horses in preparation for pulling the sleigh is daunting. I watched as Mia could barely walk under the weight of the harness and lines. Slowly but surely, she methodically worked through all the steps. It was such a treat to watch.

The horses wait patiently.

Checking the lines.

Walking the team over to the sleigh.

And away we go!
I hope you have enjoyed the window into my day. This week’s contest winner is Rena, who’s word was, “Giving”. Congratulations! All winners are chosen with a random number generator.
