Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator. I hope to fix that problem for one of you!

The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!

Here are the rules:

Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.

Only one entry allowed per person.

Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.

Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.

I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

This is probably a stupid question, but unless I ask I’ll continue to wonder about it:
Is it possible to grind nuts/seeds first (it’s easier to do this when they are dry) and then soak them and still get the advantages of soaking? Or does the grinding “kill” the nuts/seeds?

By the way, I’ve tried some of your recipes and loved them!

I’ve been partially raw for a while now, but unfortunately my dehydrator just kicked the bucket, so this giveaway would be a perfect replacement =) I’ve been following your blog for a few months and I like the approach you take of including more healthy, raw foods in your diet rather than simply trying to excise “bad” foods…it seems like a much more positive approach.

My question is about raw foods and pregnancy. I’m just a few months along, and it seems like every day I find out about some new thing that you are supposed to avoid while pregnant. Are there any common ingredients in raw foods that should be avoided? and/or, are there raw foods that would be particularly healthy additions to a pregnant woman’s diet?

    Thanks!

With all the news on TV you hear about things like spinach, tomatoes, lettuce, jalapenos etc sometimes being infected with e-coli due to contaminated water being soaked up by the plants, how safe is a raw food diet?

WOW! What an amazing giveaway. I finally splurged on a Vitamix and a dehydrator is next on my list. Buying dehydrated foods gets SO expensive. Ok, I have 2 questions:
    1. What do you think about supplements in a raw food diet –> Green Powders, Maca, Raw Protein Powders. I use them but find myself thinking I’ve gotten back into the habit of eating processed/packaged foods.
    2. I have a Breville Juicer. I now know it would have been best to have a masticating juicer (Green Star or Hurom) – If I were to make juices in advance with my Breville would I really lose all the nutrients? I work 24hr shifts and should have thought of this before purchasing the breville, I need to be able to make & store my juice.

My question is about dehydrated foods. I notice most recipes will say that a dehydrated item is good for up to 30 days. But if it’s dehydrated shouldn’t it be “good” as long as it stays dry? Could you talk more about the nutrients and shelf life of dehydrated foods?
Thanks Susan, I love your site!

I’m a beginner at raw food, but loving your recipes! I’d love to try some of the more complicated, and having a dehydrator would certainly help… 🙂

I have a question which I’m afraid i stupid, but unless I pose it I’ll continue to wonder.
Is it possible to grind nuts/seeds first (it’s easier to do when they are dry) and then soak them and still get the benefits of soaking? Or does the grinding “kill” the nuts/seeds?

I love green smoothies and the greener the better. Is it better to drink the full quart in the morning instead of breakfast or do you get the same benefits by drinking it throughout the day? Thanks for your wonderful website, recipes, information, and support on this healthy journey.

I was wondering whether you ever had a disastrous experiment with a specific food in the dehydrator.

Thank you for the awesome giveaway!

My question concerns balance. Isn’t it better to have a multitude of food stuff in one’s diet, being careful about preparation, rather than limit oneself to %100 anything? I feel that it is difficult enough to function, with wellness and health, in this world, without making it harder on ourselves than it has to be. I dehydrate many foods, and absolutely love your site! Thank you for the opportunity to win a new dehydrator…I promise to share the space with my friends, if I should win!!
