Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator.
I hope to fix that problem for one of you!
The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!
Here are the rules:
Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.
Only one entry allowed per person.
Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.
Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.
I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

I’ve heard oats are hard on the body to digest if eaten raw. Can you prepare them in a food dehydrator where they still have all the enzymes and nutrition in tact, yet won’t upset the tummy?

When you take food out of the dehydrater, is it actually warm? Does it seem “toasted”?

I bought an inexpensive dehydrator last Fall to see if I would truly use it. The results showed that I use it about twice a week. So when it burned out, not a surprise, I purchased a better quality one and have happily filled its 8 trays twice a week or more. Just last night I was thinking that if I had a second one, I could have continued making other dishes. Instead I had to stop with the idea that today or tomorrow I would continue my food preparation for the week. My question has nothing to do with dehydration. I heard Tommy Priestler speak recently and he indicated that greens are best eaten slightly steamed. I’ve been using them in my smoothies and now I’m wondering :Which vegetables should NOT be eaten uncooked?

I bought some expeller-pressed coconut oil the other day (not organic, & isn’t extra virgin)
on impulse & now am wondering if it is OK to consume it?

Woo-hoo! I really NEEED a new dehydrator. I have been frugal and using my old one that is designed for beef jerky making, lol. It is getting brittle and pieces are breaking off! Ugh. Okay, question, question…
What should the raw, food pyramid look like? What are the ideal foods to eat to achieve excellent health? 😀
Susan, I am so excited to see your continued growth and success. I can hardly wait to see what Rawmazing things are next on the horizon. It’s wonderful to see so many people being influenced here to improve their health one raw dish at a time. Your perspective about raw foods is very balanced and your creations are both tasty and beautiful. Thanks for all you do.
Blessings to you, RAWK on sistah!
xoxo

Thanks for doing this giveaway!
My question actually came up in conversation with my family yesterday. Basically it has to do with using fresh vs frozen vegetables. Can you explain the nutritional differences in fresh and frozen as it relates to say how long the fresh are stored in the refrigerator ? For example, how much loss is there when manufacturers freeze vs how much loss is there if we keep something at home in the fridge for 7 days. That sort of thing. My mother stated she read that using frozen is better than using something that’s been in the fridge, but I’m not sure.
THANKS!

Is it OK to freeze raw nuts before soaking?

Yay! A dehydrator with removable trays! Just what I’ve been looking for! My two questions are (because somebody already asked my first one):
1) Does freezing your raw foods really count as raw (don’t they lose all their nutrients?)?
2) Has anyone come up with a raw jam/jelly that has the same texture as the non-raw kind?
