Last Week of the Year

I love the last week of the year. It is my hibernation week. It is the one week of the year that I really exhale. My daughters and I load up a bunch of movies and sit and knit for hours, or get lost in a great novel. We are completely content just with being together. It is a time for quiet regeneration. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is to do nothing.

This year, we were joined by my daughter’s new puppy, Tucker. Talk about a bundle of pure joy and love. He is 4 month old now and his day pretty much consists of sleeping, playing and eating. Mostly playing.  Everyone is a potential friend, a potential new playmate. He is completely open. Even to the big white dog that occasionally gets a little fed up with puppy exuberance, but has softened to him over the last week.

As I sit and laugh at this little guy, I can’t help but think that there is so much we could all learn from him. About looking at life with the eyes of a newborn. About being more open to people and experiences. About taking some time just to sleep, eat and play.

Thank you for a post that took a break from food focus and instead held us in a simple nurturing embrace.
