Monday Give Away: UrthBag!

Monica Ralli, founder of UrthBags, has sent us this beautiful “Angelina” recycled magazine handbag for our Monday give away! UrthBags are the Eco-Chic handbags made with the health of the planet in mind. I have one of these little beauties sitting on the kitchen table, and believe me, it is fantastic.

Monica has always tried to live a sustainable life by recycling everything possible, shopping locally at farmers markets, avoiding toxic chemicals by choosing organic, etc.  Looking in her closet one evening filled with handbags, purses, totes, gym bags, etc., She thought to herself, why couldn’t these same, stylish designs be made from salvaged, recycled & discarded materials?   After much researching, sourcing materials, locating and organizing women’s groups, she created UrthBags Eco-Chic Handbags.

Monica also follows a predominantly raw diet and has for over 20 years. She strongly advocate consuming sustainable, fresh food diet that is as close to its natural state as possible. Sisterhood!

This beautiful bag’s retail value is 72.00. Thank you Monica!

As a realtor, I try to eliminate paper copies… I email everything I can and only print when absoulutely required! I’ve been trying to get the rest of the office in on this as well 🙂 Personally, I have a # of “green” things I do… eat locally (and, always raw vegan), re-use glass jars, cancelled all of my magazine subscriptions and now just use the on-line version, only use Pure Organic body products and cosmetics, compost my juicing pulp (or, re-use when I can to make crackers, chips, breads, etc.), changed over all the lightbulbs in the house and I never leave home without my reusable bags!

My favorite way of being more green is eating local organic produce.

We compost – our horse’s manure! But my favorite is probably our variety of home made bags for carrying purchases instead of using plastic.

I love cloth diapering my baby girl! She isn’t exposed to all the yucky stuff in plastic, and we keep the landfills a little less full!

I’m new to the going green movement but we started with recycling. It was easy to convert everyone in the family to!

My most recent “green” venture has using a steam cleaner. I love that I’m able to sanitize without increasing indoor pollution, or filling up landfills with bottles of cleaner and such! Next on my list is a worm composter- I’m crossing my fingers for Christmas!( OR maybe you could drop a hint with someone that you’d like to give one away…:D)

Reusing glass jars – especially wide mouth canning jars. Taking my own bags to the store. Recycling everything possible.

Growing my own herbs and veggies, reusing everything possible, old nut butter and coconut oil jars as storage containers or cups, using old baby food jars for dipping sauces or dressings (i normally make my own but have a few jars of organic on hand for emergencies) 🙂 recycling, composting, reusable bags, make bookcases out of old wine crates that will just be thrown out (check your local piqued store or wine market, these crates are awesome and have many uses in my home!)

I don’t buy any toxic cleansers or chemicals to clean and green my home. I switched from cleansers that pollute our sewers and water system to only using vinegar and baking soda to clean everything from bathrooms, windows and almost everything!
Olive oil makes a great conditioner for wooden floors as well as my hair conditioner! There are no phtalates or chemicals that I need to be concerned about.
I’ve replaced any cookware that has teflon with stainless steel, recycle almost everything that goes into the trash and started composting and expanded my backyard garden.
I have slowly turned into a raw eater and am working on educating myself everyday about our current food industry and things like GMO’s that have saturated our markets.
I only drive when I have to and bike or walk everywhere, conserve water by limiting its use to a necessity and conserve energy as much as possible.
I hope I am teaching my small children that everyone can make a change no matter how big or small.
