Monday Give Away: UrthBag!

Monica Ralli, founder of UrthBags, has sent us this beautiful “Angelina” recycled magazine handbag for our Monday give away! UrthBags are the Eco-Chic handbags made with the health of the planet in mind. I have one of these little beauties sitting on the kitchen table, and believe me, it is fantastic.

Monica has always tried to live a sustainable life by recycling everything possible, shopping locally at farmers markets, avoiding toxic chemicals by choosing organic, etc.  Looking in her closet one evening filled with handbags, purses, totes, gym bags, etc., She thought to herself, why couldn’t these same, stylish designs be made from salvaged, recycled & discarded materials?   After much researching, sourcing materials, locating and organizing women’s groups, she created UrthBags Eco-Chic Handbags.

Monica also follows a predominantly raw diet and has for over 20 years. She strongly advocate consuming sustainable, fresh food diet that is as close to its natural state as possible. Sisterhood!

This beautiful bag’s retail value is 72.00. Thank you Monica!

We compost, recycle, ride our bikes whenever possible (oh, the snow will be here soon) and think twice about every purchase. Sometimes we just don’t need it! Oh, and we listen to This Green Earth on KPCW every Tuesday from Park City, Utah.

One of my favorite ways to be green is to feed my dogs vegetables. When I am finished juicing or cutting up veggies/fruit for the day, my dogs eat the leftover foods. They love them!!! It’s nice to be able to use the vegetables other than feeding my little trash can!

My favourite way to be green is riding my bike as much as possible! I love being able to ride to the grocery store, or to a friend’s house, or to a local cafe. Not only do I feel more independent, (even more so than when I drive), but I feel wonderful, too! The fresh air-nothing like it!

I like to use my own mugs and cups at the coffee shop. Coffee and tea taste better out of ceramic or glass anyway 🙂

I am trying to be more green by generally consuming less, composting everything that I can, using homemade recipes with natural ingredients and not consuming meat.

Besides big stuff, like eating a 95% vegetarian diet and minimizing driving a hybrid car, I recently bought a glass straw (made by Lydia’s Organics), take ToGoWare bamboo utensils with me wherever I go, and even started re-using my dental floss (inspired while backpacking, I rinse/wipe it once). And I educate others about ways to love Mother Earth!

I know I could do better – I drive too much, for one thing, but I live in a small, somewhat secluded town. However, I used to use cloth diapers, I stopped buying paper towels and don’t miss them at all, and I use cloth pads – Glad Rags.

When my grandchildren were very young (2 & 3) they would always stop and pick up things outside and put them in their pockets, or mine, and take them home and recycle. They say you teach by example. My granddaughter will come up to me and say “Grandma, I just love Mother Earth”. For a time my grandson wanted to hug every tree. Yes, I do have beautiful grand “earth” children!

I try to be very conscious of what I’m throwing out and make sure it can’t be recycled or reused. We take all our used clothing to a donation store. It takes a lot of work and planning to get rid of things.
