Avocado Coconut Oil Hair Mask

My darling daughter was recently in town for a visit. I can’t tell you how much fun it was to introduce her to my new home, the San Francisco Bay area. We had an amazing time and once again, I was reminded what a remarkable young woman she has grown into. I love that at 23, she is into healthy eating and skin care, creates a lot of her own recipes and is a wiz in the kitchen. We hiked, made food together, spent a day in the city and a day at the shore. It was a wonderful visit.

While she loved the heat without humidity, she was less impressed on the toll it had taken on my hair. “Mom, your hair looks a little dry and frizzy”, she informed me one afternoon. From the mouths of babes, right? I couldn’t disagree as I had been noticing the dryness myself. Off to the kitchen we went as I whipped up a great hair mask for both of us. We came up with some wonderful avocado recipes.

Honestly, I knew it would help, but I wasn’t prepared for the transformation these three simple ingredients created! Both Kaia (youngest daughter) and I ended up with hair that was shiny and silky. We both agreed that our hair hasn’t looked this good for months! I made an immediate promise to myself to use this mask at least once a month

      Hi Angelica,

You can make a rosemary rinse, using avocado, peppermint, and sage oil

I recently colored my hair a dark coppery red after 30 years of being blonde. I’m such a fan of home made hair and skin treatments, but I’ve been so nervous about doing anything that might harm this new (and expensive) color. Any idea if this recipe is harmful to bottled color? I know to stay away from anything with citrus in it.
All I know is the ends of my hair are super dry and my poor scalp has been crazy flaky–something I’ve never had a problem with.

I wish I had an answer for you but I don’t know that science. Maybe ask your colorist?

@Shannon…I know! Crazy, isn’t it? I am starting to use avocados that are a little past their prime, as Candy suggested.

I used this recipe in my hair and my husbands and it is seriously the BEST. I have recommended it to others and have shared it enthusiastically. It left our hair so incredibly soft, healthy and shiny. Truth be told.. I had a hard time using an avocado for my hair and not my tummy. 🙂 But hey, small sacrifice for beauty. Thanks Susan.
