Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator. I hope to fix that problem for one of you!

The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!

Here are the rules:

Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.

Only one entry allowed per person.

Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.

Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.

I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

I have a huge dream list for health apparati and dehydrator is on the list. I am glad they make these in stainless steel. Many “health appliances” are made of plastic . . . doesn’t seem right. My question is regarding nutrition. I believe most nutrients are preserved by dehydrating. What IS the nutritional difference between fresh-picked wild blueberries and the same berries dehydrated within 1 hour of picking? Vitamins, Enzymes, etc.?

    Tanya –

I had the same question a while back and learned the answer – yes, extreme cold temps do destroy some nutrition, just as heat does, but some people find that it’s worth it to freeze things for later use because as raw foods already have a ton of enzymes to begin with, some minimal loss in the freezer isn’t the end of the world.

Wow, Susan. this is the most amazing giveaway i’ve ever seen!
I’ve been asking myself this question for a while now, and have done research on the internet, but, of course, every opinion that seems the most logical has an opposing opinion that, well, seems just as logical. My question: fasting/cleansing. What do you find gives you the best results for maximum weight loss? I feel lame asking about something like weight, because as long as I’m nourishing my insides with raw abundance, I should be at my appropriate weight. I have just been in a habit of eating too many nut-based foods, and I feel it’s time to incorporate some kind of weekly juice- or water-only day. What do you think about this? I just don’t want my body to go into starvation mode and drop my metabolism.
thanks for your wonderful website! i always look forward to every new post of yours.

Wow! A dehydrator! I’m still saving up for a big food processor and/or a Vitamix….a dehydrator would’ve been next on the list after those. I’ve seen that people freeze raw food. So, it’s ok to have extreme cold temps but not hot temps. The cold doesn’t rid the food of any nutrients, like heat does?

My question is this: What do you think is the biggest mistake that raw foodists make, in terms of dietary choices? (Forgetting to supplement, not getting enough of a certain nutrient, etc.)

I would be thrilled and grateful to win the dehydrator..something my kitchen still does not hold. My question is..I have only 5 organic vegetables available to purchase in my community ( rural nebraska) how would you recommend I wash all other produce to try and clear at least some pesticides>?
