Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator.
I hope to fix that problem for one of you!
The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!
Here are the rules:
Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.
Only one entry allowed per person.
Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.
Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.
I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

Hi! I have been drooling over dehydrators for a couple weeks now…
Here goes: What is your ideal super-food raw recipe? Something that is “complete” so to speak? (The proportions of protein, fiber, carbs, etc).
Thanks!
Sam

Wow, what a nice surprise!
My raw food question is about finding recipes with proper food combining. Nuts and (non-citrus) fruits are said to be a poor food combination. If this is so, what are some good recipes that use proper food combining, especially for desserts which often include both nuts and fruits?

Oh, how exciting. I’d love, love, love to win a dehydrator. My question is, “can you talk more about your creative process with respect to recipe development”? Your recipes (and website plus photos) are truly amazing (aptly so). Given your background, do you generally start with a regular gourmet recipe, then convert it to a raw recipe? I also wonder how much experimentation is involved before hitting upon the right ratios and ingredients.
Thanks so much for your inspiration. Erica

Never own one! Just started raw lifestyle (about 75%) last year with my son who turned 18 in January. He’s more into RAW than me and has been begging me to get a dehydrator, but I didn’t know where to turn until I found your website with wonderful recipes, articles, and suggestions, and best of all, your photos!! If I didn’t win one by you, I would definitely get this kind of dehydrator.. eventually 🙂 I have one biggest fear of dehydrating: will the raw veggies or fruits ever ‘over-dry’ and lose the valuable enzymes even with several hours under the temperature of 118 degrees in the dehydrator? Thank you!
A personal note to Susan, what is your favorite food to dehydrate?

Hi Susan,
When I was cooking, dinner was a family affair that we looked forward to everyday. Now that I’ve gone down the raw path individually, it seems like I’ve had to isolate my eating habits and the family bonding time is virtually gone.
Are there specific raw meals that you’ve had success with introducing to hardcore SAD eaters?

Hello, I have just one question. I have been making raw foods for a little while now and I have noticed one thing. Olive oil is used A LOT, sometimes in pretty large quantities. I’m fine with that, but I was just curious how many recipes involving olive oil you should make to eat in one day. How much is too much?
Thanks, your blog is incredible! And the chance to win a dehydrator is always wonderful!

Hello! What a lovely idea. My question is:
” Where is the best place to find raw vegan goodies online?”
Thank you 🙂

My question:
Are nutrients lost during the dehydration process?
I’m learning about the affects of processing on whole raw foods and have been learning to prepare raw foods with as little processing as possible *juicing for example. Some raw foods (non-organic) have lost nutrients during growing and bacteria sprays (which kill more than just bacteria as I understand it). I would love the shelf life potential of using a dehydrator, but, am concerned about the percent of nutrient loss during the process.
Thanks,
Deb

I’ve had my eye on this one for months, hoping my DH will get the hint and present it for our anniversary so I can be a total convert! But…if I could win one, even better 🙂
My official question for the giveaway: What helpful hints or recipes do you have for converting die-hard cooked foodie kids (10 to 22 yrs. old) to raw?
I have another: With the information about fructose, I’m reconsidering agave -what would you recommend as an alternate to agave?
Thanks so much for this site – it is truly the best I’ve seen!
Peace and health –
