Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator. I hope to fix that problem for one of you!

The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!

Here are the rules:

Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.

Only one entry allowed per person.

Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.

Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.

I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

I would love to know is there any specific rules on what can and cannot be dehydrated?

Do you think it would be easier to slowly ease into a raw diet, or to just go for it, and maybe just “Try it out for a month” so you don’t feel restricted by it?

What is a good substitute for nama shoyu if you want to avoid all soy products in praparing raw food dishes? Also, what is a good substitute for agave? There seem to be a lot of raw recipes that call for agave. Seems to be some controversy as to whether it is truly raw even if labeled as such. After all, domestic almonds are labeled raw but they’ve been flash pasteurized.

I notice in some of your rarw recepies you needa dehydrater to dry things, such as making shells for tarts etc.and main dishes as well. Is there any other way I can do it with out a dehydrater? Thanks Kay.

I’ve heard that drinking leafy greens and fruits, juiced, is a good way to get the vitamins. And that straining the juice thru a nutmilk bag makes it easy on the digestion, giving your tummy a break. And that greens are most nutrient packed right after being juiced, but lose their vitamins in a little as 30 minutes. I’ve also heard of adding chia seeds to fruit juice is good because chia flattens out the sugar spike of fruit juice and makes it slower to absorb. My question is, if you add chia to your juiced leafy greens and fruit, does this make the vitamins of the leafy greens also be slow to absorb, therefore negating some of the positive effects of drinking the green juice in the first place?

I am very new to raw food. My sons and I have tried some of the recipes such as mock tuna, meat loaf made with walnuts sunflower seeds, almond…..and burgers made with almonds/walnuts. We find that when we juice and eat salads, we feel excellent. Each time that we try recipes with nuts, we don’t feel so well. Are there some folks that should stay away from recipes like that and deal strictly with the juicing and veggies?? We were trying recipes from various books to have a tasty “variety”, but we seem to be failing miserably. *sigh* I know that I have a lot to learn, and I’m possibly doing thing incorrect along the way. Will keep at it.

Thank you for all of the wonderful info that you share on your blog. I’m so happy that we found you to help us in our journey.

I have been a raw foodist for seven months now and cured myself of many ailments.
My big problem is that beeing a diabetic I must be very careful not to eat a lot of fruit.
How can you be on a raw food diet and eat very little fruit?
