Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator.
I hope to fix that problem for one of you!
The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!
Here are the rules:
Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.
Only one entry allowed per person.
Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.
Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.
I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

What is the right ratio of sugar and fats in a raw foods diet, how do you get that feeling full ( not bloated) ratio of fat content in a meal.

I found your site a while ago, and although I would LOVE to be able to make more of your delicious sounding recipes, I have no dehydrator. I did make the raw fudge, and that was GREAT, made for Valentine’s Day ๐ Being unemployed, I agree some of the ingredients for the raw food recipes are expensive, such as the raw cacao powder, coconut oil, etc. I would rather spend my money on healthy foods instead of spending it on medical bills. How can I make eating raw food more economical?

i’m wondering whether the temperature at which the food is dehydrated (not cooked) actually matters. at lower temperatures, doesn’t it just take longer, but still yield the same results?
if i had a dehydrator… i would make some flax crackers, STAT. also, if sprouted foods are used in a dehydrated recipe (wow, talk about effort put into such a thing) such as sprouted buckwheat/flax crackers, do they retain the same nutritional qualities?
another question… (haha they just keep on coming). do you use the dehydrator to ever dehydrate fruits (such as bananas)? what is that like?
also, is there any raw crackers recipes that uses coconut (whether fresh coconut meat or shredded dried coconut)?
thanks ๐ i hope i win!

Do you have a favorite raw tortilla recipe?
I’d really like to make some good raw burritos for my mom to try, to get her to warm up to raw foods.

Thanks so much!

Hi! When dehydrating, what is the right temperature to keep the enzymes – I feel as though there are differing views. Is it 105 or 115? I look forward to hearing your answer! : )

Hi Susan,
What a beautiful dehydrator and generous, exciting contest…wowee!!! And the photo of the tulips is BEAUTIFUL…makes me want to buy a bunch tomorrow for our home!
I have a question about soaking nuts & seeds. I had read a few years ago (but can’t find the article) that when nuts and seeds are soaked, their fat/protein ratio changes from 70% fat/30% protein to 30% fat/70% protein. I would love to know if this is true and where I can find the scientific test to back it up so I can share that with friends as another good reason to soak nuts and seeds.
Thanks again ๐

Is it possible to be happy eating on a raw food diet without a dehydrator? All the raw food (un)cookbooks seem to focus or rely on dehydrated foods to pull off a delicious and varied menu. I currently do not have a dehydrator and am struggling to stay interested when the only options left seem to be a) a salad (again) or b) pรขtรฉ #237 from the cuisinart…. I really want this to work. I am committed, but I’d like to be excited about my next meal.
