Monday Give Away: UrthBag!

Monica Ralli, founder of UrthBags, has sent us this beautiful “Angelina” recycled magazine handbag for our Monday give away! UrthBags are the Eco-Chic handbags made with the health of the planet in mind. I have one of these little beauties sitting on the kitchen table, and believe me, it is fantastic.

Monica has always tried to live a sustainable life by recycling everything possible, shopping locally at farmers markets, avoiding toxic chemicals by choosing organic, etc.  Looking in her closet one evening filled with handbags, purses, totes, gym bags, etc., She thought to herself, why couldn’t these same, stylish designs be made from salvaged, recycled & discarded materials?   After much researching, sourcing materials, locating and organizing women’s groups, she created UrthBags Eco-Chic Handbags.

Monica also follows a predominantly raw diet and has for over 20 years. She strongly advocate consuming sustainable, fresh food diet that is as close to its natural state as possible. Sisterhood!

This beautiful bag’s retail value is 72.00. Thank you Monica!

Even living in drought times in CA, I’m not afraid of wasting water when I wash my veggies. I place them in a salad spinner to wash them. When finished, I lift the straining portion with the veggies, and water my plants (inside and out) with the collected water. I also keep a plastic watering can in my shower to collect all the water that is usually wasted until the shower becomes warm enough. Just doing these 2 things, I hardly ever have to turn on an outside hose to water plants.

Recycling, recycling, recycling! I never buy bottled water and instead use my Camelbaks and other BPA free water bottles at home and at work.

I have been trying to go green and healthy with my household products…..everything from products used in cleaning to toiletries (shampoo, body cream, toothpaste, soap). I read once not to put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put into your mouth.
We also use a service called organics delivered that drops off produce from local farms or fair trade produce weekly. It is amazing!

I keep a bucket in my kitchen for composting everything. I also turn trash to treasure by giving pieces new life and re-painting them and painting flowers or animals on them.

To be more green, I try never to buy water in a bottle and I alway save and re-use any glass bottles that comes into my house.

My favorite way to be green is just not buying any animal products (food, leather, etc.). Reducing our production of animal products helps the planet immensely.
