Monday Give Away: UrthBag!

Monica Ralli, founder of UrthBags, has sent us this beautiful “Angelina” recycled magazine handbag for our Monday give away! UrthBags are the Eco-Chic handbags made with the health of the planet in mind. I have one of these little beauties sitting on the kitchen table, and believe me, it is fantastic.

Monica has always tried to live a sustainable life by recycling everything possible, shopping locally at farmers markets, avoiding toxic chemicals by choosing organic, etc.  Looking in her closet one evening filled with handbags, purses, totes, gym bags, etc., She thought to herself, why couldn’t these same, stylish designs be made from salvaged, recycled & discarded materials?   After much researching, sourcing materials, locating and organizing women’s groups, she created UrthBags Eco-Chic Handbags.

Monica also follows a predominantly raw diet and has for over 20 years. She strongly advocate consuming sustainable, fresh food diet that is as close to its natural state as possible. Sisterhood!

This beautiful bag’s retail value is 72.00. Thank you Monica!

I’m enjoying making enormous juices for myself & my husband (usually 1 pint each) almost entirely from our garden (mostly weeds, but also kale / spinach / lettuce / beets that I grow) – the nutrients are amazing! I do like to add cucumber though, and my crop failed!
Another way that we are greener is by using our bath water, to flush the loo (we live in a tint awkwardly shaped cottage, and can’t have a shower!). A great book to help people make better choices is MOGO (Most Good) by Zoe Weil, from the Institute of Humane Education, Maine.
Loved your article on ‘what is food’!

One of our favorite ways to be green is to shop at consignment shops and donate everything we grow out of to various organizations. We take good care of everything we have because we our clothes and accessories to last well beyond our use. We waste nothing at our house!

We compost – have been doing it for the last 20 years. Yesterday was a perfect Fall day to move our compost from the bin to the resting area – that will be able to be used next Spring. And we started recycling when recycling wasn’t “green”. That started close to 40 years ago. Yikes! Am I that old?

I am recycling all the mail that my dad and I receive. I’ve gotten a shredder and would like to turn this unbelievable mound of paper into papier mache. I then want to make furniture and jewelry out of the papier mache.

I believe that curbside recycling is one of the best things we all can do. I hardly fill one garbage can a week, my recycling bins are always full. It may seem like a small step but my neighbors are slowly following my example.

My husband and I go out on trash days to pick up perfectly good items people throw out and clean them up. We then find new homes for them creating less landfill garbage and helping someone who is in need!

My daughter, Lexi who is 11 and I recycle everything! and compost everything we can! It has been a GREAT experience to share together and grow together in! Our latest project is to take all the money we get for recycling every month and donate 100% of it to a different local charity. It’s a great way to help and give back to the people of your community….;-)
