Raw Egglessnog
Our holiday raw food recipe quest continues with dairy free, healthy “eggnog”. Christmas has always been magical for me. Every room of our home was decorated with beautiful garlands and Christmas cheer. My mother turned into the Christmas Angel and our home was stunning with it’s magical transformation. Along with the decorations, came the food and drinks. Tom & Jerry’s (made with vanilla for me), eggnog, dozens of different cookies. Christmas wasn’t just a holiday, it was a month long event.
I have continued this tradition for my family. Boxes of decorations and ornaments make their way out of storage and our home begins it’s own transformation. Pine garlands, lights, and wreaths on every door, inside and out. As the decorating starts, I find myself craving the traditional holiday beverages. But the traditional recipes are not exactly healthy. Milk, cream, sugar and eggs. Sounds divine but not for my heart or my waist. So, with the inspiration from my friend, Joanna from Fresh Blessings, I give you the raw food, healthy version of eggnog. Dairy free, sweetened with dates, a little agave, and loaded with healthy ingredients and nutrients. I have served this to my non-raw friends and they love it. Toast the holidays to health with this wonderful beverage.

Dear Susan,
I want to thank you so much for what you do here on your website. You have so many beautiful recipes and such amazing information available to anyone and I am so happy I found my way to your website.
All the raw eggnog recipes i have found so far all have banana in it and my boyfriend and I are not fans of that flavor! So I am excited to try out your eggless nog! recipe!!
Oh and I do have a question for you –
I have been asking around if people know any great raw cheese recipes?? My Boyfriend and I are looking for AWESOME raw vegan dairy alternatives. Is there anything you could recommend?
Thank you very much SUSAN!

Sounds delicious! If I can’t get a young coconut, could I use dried coconut instead? If so, any idea how much dried coconut would equal the flesh from one young coconut? Thank you!

If you reconstitute it it might work but it won’t be the same as fresh. You get about 3/4 cup of flesh out of a young coconut.

This sounds great! I just made a raw one from VegNews that was a little too watery. I am going to try yours!

Yum! I recently made raw eggnog that turned into a thick sauce by accident. But this looks great.

this sounds lovely. I’ve never used fresh coconut this way, straining after blending. Do you soak the almonds first?
Susan wrote on December 17, 2009
I always soak my almonds and nuts the minute they come through the door to release the enzyme inhibitors. I usually then dry them and they are ready to go. They only get soaked again if needed for texture, etc. In this recipe, it is your choice. It doesn’t really matter either way for the consistency, but for health reasons you might want to.
