Your whole food, plant-based life.

How Not to Die – GIVEAWAY!

Enter to win “How Not to Die” by Michael Greger, MD. The best resource on how to use a plant based diet to fight the top 15 life-shortening killers. THE RULES TO ENTER ARE AT THE END OF THE POST.

I have been a fan of Dr. Michael Greger for years. His site, NutritionFacts.Org is my top “go to” for information on nutrition and health. To date, there are 1,965 articles and videos covering every health topic you can imagine. He is always on top of the latest, scientifically verified, groundbreaking science relating to plant based diet choices and how they positively affect our health.

How Not to Die by Michael Greger, MD

You can find the” latest information” many places but no one does the research like Dr. Greger does. He cites study after study, debunking some information and strongly, scientifically supporting other information. It is the one place that I truly trust for the latest information on nutrition.

Dr Greger is a huge proponent of a plant-based diet. And through his research, he has identified the foods that have been “scientifically proven to prevent and reverse disease”. His much anticipated book, “How Not to Die” covers the 15 leading causes of premature death, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer and how to combat and possibly reverse these diseases with diet and lifestyle changes. It is mind-blowing. Did you know that drinking hibiscus tea can work better that the leading drug treatment?

His new book also covers the foods and activities that we should include in our daily routines. He even has a check-list that you can use for your daily healthy eating and life-style.

We are buying this book for many of our friends for Christmas and I wanted to make sure that one of you received one too! This is NOT a sponsored post, nor did I receive a book to give away. I believe so strongly in his work that I bought a copy and am giving it as a gift to one of you. All profits from his book go to charity. Pretty cool, huh?

To eat healthy I endeavour to always have a jar of homemade sauerkraut in the fridge for those moments of desperation and hunger attacks, or to enjoy with something fried to aid the digestion. I also make sure I have regular veggie soups to ground, balance and give my body a rest from digesting my fat loving meals.

I eat healthy by thinking of all the nutrients and what they’re doing to my body. I also try to avoid certain foods by thinking the same way ( how it can hurt me). I try not to beat myself up or think of any food as “bad”. Today I packed an avocado, kimchi, A big salad. a protein drink and a Clementine for lunch

I stay healthy by being conscious of what I am eating. I juice, exercise, and eat foods that nourish my body.

I eat a raw/cooked vegan diet with no sugar. The only processed food I eat are raw nut butters.

I always have warm water and lemon juice upon rising and then a green based juice for breakfast. That way I’m set up for the day. 🙂

I was an overweight child and in Weight Watchers in 3rd grade. That was when I was given the name “Dannee Diet Fatso”. In high school, I discovered how not eating helped me lose weight and I actually felt better… I was lighter, had clearer thinking (and skin), and I wasn’t such an outcast. But of course I needed to find balance. I naturally began eating for my blood type (A-vegetarian) and avoiding GMO foods and other inflammatory foods before I had formally learned to do this. I feel like I’m still learning about foods, health and balance and what a great book to add for my knowledge base!

I often start my day with a green smoothy. made with kale or spinach and some extra green stuff like spirulina. Of course I’ll add some apples and give it a kick with some lime for example. For lunch I’ll have a salade which contains almost always a yummy avocado. In the evening I’ll have just about anything my darling cooks and she’s a good one. Whatever she bought sweet potatoes or cassava or funny mushroom; she’ll make some weird combination which tastes good when she makes it, but when I do that well, let’s say I am not a kitchen princess as we would say in Holland.
Oh, and between meals: i’ll have raw chocolate. Also made by my girlfriend (she’s just too good to be true ;-))

As a Fibromyalgia sufferer and a naturopathic nutrition student I focus a great deal of energy of eating the right food. I predominantly eat a plant based diet free from wheat, diary and soy and only eat fish once a week. I try and have as varied a diet as possible and also ensure that I sprout, ferment and eat organic where possible. I am mindful of sourcing good food and know that what I eat ultimately determines how I feel.
